DORCE Sourcing by Region and Use

Start with the project location

Start with the use and destination. A camp, a school and a warehouse can share the same port and still need different approval records and installation checks.

Destination review notes

The example sourcing profiles below highlight questions for the destination team. Verify the current adopted code, edition and local amendments for the actual site before relying on any supplier submittal.

For a U.S. classroom tender, ask the local engineer which code edition governs, then identify which party checks site wind, snow and seismic conditions. A relocatable unit may still trigger accessibility and egress requirements.

Ask which facility and welding qualifications are required on the bid. Request a sample transmittal that links the welding procedure to specific joints and identifies who issues the inspection record.

For a European bid, distinguish the steel member design basis from execution requirements. Record the applicable National Annex and the execution class if required by the contract. Check the fabrication record against that class.

At coupled modules, check the frame edges and window perimeter separately from the middle of the panel. The envelope consultant needs both the declared panel performance and the joint section to assess heat loss.

In an exposed Gulf logistics project, ask bidders to state the corrosion assumptions and the proposed steel protection system. Allow for onsite cut-edge and connection repairs in the installation scope.

A camp can combine dormitory, dining and clinic modules. For each occupancy, request the enclosure and egress drawings and check which evidence the local design team will accept.

For a coastal school project in Southeast Asia, ask the project engineer to confirm the design wind basis and hold-down conditions. Check wind-driven rain at doors and module junctions during the comparison.

Panelized light-gauge assemblies and volumetric units have different bracing and installation assumptions. If a supplier combines both, request the joint section showing how forces transfer between the two systems.

Compare building systems

Question Volumetric module Panelized / flat-pack Portal-frame hall
Factory share of fit-out hours Confirm the specified supplier-side MEP scope List joints that must be closed on site Primary steel in shop; envelope and slab on site
40HQ density Confirm module dimensions and transport equipment Use the bidder’s package drawing and dunnage allowances Counted in tonnes, not in rooms
Clear span comfort zone Check coupling beams and support spacing Similar, set by panel span tables Verify the specified clear span against project loads
What fails first Road height and crane radius Site workmanship at the couple line Unstated collateral load from doors or cranes

Match the bid to the destination

Send the destination, use and delivery window. We can structure a supplier comparison around the likely submittals, installation split and any information the local project team still needs.

  • Use and storey count
  • Wind, snow or seismic number if you hold one
  • Port of discharge
